Our Third Weebly App: "Hide"

What is Weebly?

Weebly is a website builder, a class of tools that allow you to create a website using an intuitive, drag-and-drop user interface. These tools are intended to allow a company to maintain and incrementally develop their website on their own, without the overhead of using a web developer for ongoing changes.

Weebly is a very popular tool, used by tens of millions of websites. It runs in a web browser, features an intuitive, drag-and-drop user interface and also has iOS and Android apps for editing your web site on the go.

What is "Hide"?

Earlier this year, Weebly introduced their own App Center, allowing third-party developers to create new apps to extend the functionality of the core Weebly toolkit.

Finite Wisdom has created several of these apps, the third of which, Hide, was approved and released on June 16th, 2016. Weebly websites use responsive layouts, meaning: the content on each page is automatically rearranged to accommodate the size of the browser window. But, you might have a situation where certain content is only appropriate at a certain window size. For example, you might have an ad for your mobile app, and don't want that ad to display when your site is viewed from a desktop browser.

Hide allows you to specify whether a given collection of elements should be shown or hidden at each of the following window sizes:

  • Extra small (phone, small tablet)
  • Small (tablet, small laptop)
  • Medium (laptop, small desktop)
  • Large (large desktop)

Admittedly, this third app of ours has proven the least popular of the set, installed on only 650 websites so far. But, it's been much admired but those webmasters that needed it. For example:
